Rough grading gets the site to approximate shape and elevation — that is what happens before construction. Finish grading is the final pass that leaves a smooth, seed-ready surface. Finish costs more because it takes more passes and more care.
Can grading fix a wet basement?
Sometimes, and it is the right first thing to check. If water is pooling against the foundation because the ground slopes the wrong way, regrading can make a real difference for a fraction of what interior work costs. If water is coming up through the floor, that is a different problem and grading will not solve it.
Do you bring in fill dirt?
When a job needs it, yes. Some grading only redistributes what is already on site, which is cheaper. Filling a significant low spot means hauling material in, and that gets priced separately.
